Paris, London, San Antonio, Tokyo and New York. These are just some of the cities where Salon typically overwhelms the audience. Not least due to the fact that the work of decorative painters is usually only seen in castles and manors, historic buildings, churches, hotels and high-class properties.
The illusion paintings and techniques, which require a great deal of experience and expertise, are now made available for all interested visitors to experience.
The Danish Decorative Painters’ Guild will be opening the doors and welcoming decorative painters from all over the world to Salon Horsens 2025 on the 8th – 11th of May at FÆNGSLET in Horsens.
Visitors will have the unique opportunity to experience the artists’ masterpieces at the impressive exhibition in Vestsalen.
Meanwhile, you can also visit the decorative painters in Magasinet, where 70 artists from countries such as Japan, Belgium and Italy will demonstrate historical techniques in a live painting workshop under the theme ‘Norse Mythology’.
In accordance with tradition, a special work of art will be created on site under this year’s theme, where several motifs from Norse mythology are woven into a 5 x 2.5 metre painting.
The decorative painters at Salon are the best in the world at historical painting techniques such as veining, marbling, gilding, trompé l’oeil, grissailles, anamorphic painting, murals and more.
Heidi Zilmer, who is the host of the Salon Horsens 2025 event and one of Denmark’s most recognised decorative painters, is thrilled with the great participation from the best in the craft:
‘We are excited to show the audience our craftsmanship and techniques. Hopefully we’ll spread inspiration with our passion for our craft.’
Sune Schnack, CEO of Flügger Group, which sponsors the Salon Horsens, shares the enthusiasm:
‘As a supplier to the painting trade, it was an easy decision to support the Salon Horsens. We look forward to celebrating the craft together with the world’s elite, and watching the artworks being painted right before our eyes.
The painting profession is a solid craft that requires great expertise and experience. We are looking forward to meeting colleagues from all over Denmark and the world to share experiences and learn new things,’ concludes Sune Schnack.
The Salon Horsens 2025 will take place in FÆNGSLET from the 8th – 11th of May. Entrance is free for the public every day from 9am to 5pm. The Salon consists of exhibitions, lectures and live workshops.
The Salon is the international gathering of decorative painters who alternate between hosting the Salon in their home countries. By doing so, the Salon follows a centuries-old tradition among craftsmen to share knowledge and experience of their craft.
The decorative painters have been gathering since 1992 in the Salon format and this will be only the second time it has been hosted in Denmark.
