Flügger helps building contractors with increasing documentation requirements
Increased environmental and documentation requirements in the building regulations are putting pressure on Danish construction companies. In order to support professional customers, Flügger has launched a new online concept to ensure a complete overview of the contents of the products.

Danish construction companies and painters are increasingly faced with higher documentation requirements for the construction of new buildings. This trend has been felt by the paint company Flügger, which develops, produces and sells products for the painting industry. In 2023, Flügger experienced an unprecedented increase in demand for detailed product documentation from professional commercial customers.

As a result, Flügger is now opening up to provide everyone with full access to updated product documentation. In this way, you can easily get an overview before construction begins. Flügger calls the concept Pixi:

Painting projects, especially on public buildings, require a lot of mandatory data and documentation. With Pixi, we make it easier for individuals to ensure that the requirements in the bids are met. Our product data will be freely available to business customers – and anyone else who may be interested, says Mikkel Boelskifte, Country Manager at Flügger Denmark.

New requirements in the Building Regulations 2018

At the beginning of 2023, the Danish Parliament introduced a number of tightened climate requirements in the Building Regulations 2018 (BR18), and this is a major reason why Flügger customers are increasingly looking for more information.

The new regulations mean, for example, that contractors must ensure adequate documentation to a much greater extent. A so-called life cycle assessment (LCA calculation) must document the climate impact of a building for 50 years after construction.

In relation to the painting of new buildings, the new rules require the construction process itself to account for CO2 manufacture declarations, which must be used to calculate the total climate impact of the building. This applies in particular to sustainability certifications of buildings – including DGNB, BREEAM NOR and Nordic Ecolabelled buildings.

Documentation requirements are noticeable in the stores

Flügger is involved in the painting process from the paint is developed in Rødovre, produced in Kolding and sold in Flügger’s many stores across the country. Therefore, the interest is felt all the way to Flügger’s own stores. One of the stores that has noticed the professional customers’ increased interest in detailed product information is Flügger in Køge:

– In 2023, my staff and I spent significantly more time talking to business customers about the technical data of the products. We can clearly see that they now have documentation requirements that take up a lot of time in their planning. With our new service, we make it both easy and manageable to get a complete overview of what a paint such as Dekso AÏR consists of. They can use this directly in their dialogue with contractors and others, says Lene Fischer, Store Manager at Flügger in Køge.
